LOGGING
There are several common reasons for selling:
   ~A woodland owner may need to clear land for
      other uses, such as crops or livestock.
   ~A second reason for harvesting timber may simply
      be the or want of money.
   ~A third reason for harvesting is to improve growing
      conditions for higher returns.  The number of trees
      in a wood lot and their spacing at differant ages
      are important influences on tree growth & quality.
   ~A fourth reason is economic maturity of the tree.  
      When growth drops to a point where economic
      gain is very low, it may be desirable to harvest
      the tree to improve the woodland.

Other reasons or tree maturity signs to watch
for are:
   ~Large trees that are dead in the tops or with 
      many large dead or dying branches.
   ~Trees with sever stem defects that make them
      unprofitable to grow.
   ~Low-quality smaller trees or less vigorous, poorer
      quality large trees in crowded stands.
